Life Balance Across the Pond ~ Make the Most of Each Day

Blue sky view of the glistening sea helps us maintain our life balance across the pond

A day at work, an evening enjoying a gorgeous view. Achieve a life balance on both sides of the pond.

Whether you work in a corporate environment or are self employed, whether your daily job is in a trade, or maybe you work in a the retail, service or health environment the key is to ensure you manage a life balance. I’ve experienced corporate life in America and now am self employed across the pond and achieving a consistent life balance is difficult in every situation, but always a must!

Whatever you do for daily work, managing a life balance is essential for your overall well being!

Amongst other things, my husband and I manage a 19 bedroom HMO here in England. HMO stands for House of Multiple Occupancies here in England (across the pond in the states it stands for Health Maintenance Organization). The rooms generally contain a bed, a wardrobe (stand alone closet), a bedside table, dining table and chair, a lamp or two, a comfy reading chair, a kitchen type sink, under sink cabinets, a stand alone sink for washing up and a refrigerator. Most of the residents share common areas, such as full kitchens, bathrooms, and dining area, however 4 of the rooms are self contained with their own bathrooms and small kitchenettes,

We have a fantastic occupancy rate which we believe is due to us actively managing, maintaining and having a hands-on approach. However, on occasion we do have a vacancy. What that means for us is a refurbishment of the vacated room which we choose to do as much as possible ourselves, and other times relying on our team. We always a do a deep clean top to bottom, including baseboards, moldings (mouldings), walls, windows and sills! Also, when someone vacates we supply new bedding, replace aging furniture, and add a few homey touches, ensuring the residents have a comfortable and inviting place to come home and enjoy their life-balance. This particular room also required painting the walls, the drain pipe to be replaced in the smaller sink, and a cupboard door to be rehinged.

Here are a few before and after pics to show the 6 hours we spent on this refurb here across the pond!

Before…gathering the supplies, gathering items to be removed and preparing for our work day:

After…thoroughly cleaned, walls painted, new bedding, plumbing and cupboard door fixed, updated dining table and chair:

At the end of the day take time to obtain that life balance, here in England and across the pond!

A fresh cup of tea, some refreshing orange juice, a sit on the deck with hubby congratulating ourselves on a job well done, and enjoying this amazing view! Our life balance across the pond ~

Whatever you do in your day to day life, make sure to maintain the ever important life balance. Take time to breathe, time to ponder, let your thoughts wander, inhale, exhale, spend quality time with your loved one. Take the time to regroup for your next workday, or maybe for your next adventure across the pond!
