Let’s travel to Mevagissey, located in Cornwall, U.K. and explore this lovely English fishing village which epitomizes the quaint English seaside.

Mevagissey Longitude/Latitude

Cornwall is about a 3 1/2 hour drive, southwest from Poole, Dorset, where we live. From London, Cornwall is about 5 1/2 hours southwest.

We enjoy visiting the working fishing village of Mevagissey. Mevagissey boasts a year round population of about 2,200 people. However, in the summer months, the population can swell to 770,000 to 850,000! A trip to this seaside village in the less busier month of October can be absolutely worth the trip! And of course, if you don’t mind the tourist crowds, summer is gorgeous too!!

On our most recent visit to explore Cornwall, U.K. we took a trip to Mevagissey in the early part of October. It was still relatively warm and great weather for the 5 mile walk over to the next village of Pentewan. For those familiar with the Maine coastline, Mevagissey reminds me of that. Particularly it reminds me of the Marginal Walkway in Perkins Cove, Ogunquit, Maine, although the coastal walk in Mevagissey is a bit more rugged. We walked 5 miles and climbed the equivalent of 29 floors! The views…absolutely amazing! The walk begins on a fairly comfortable path. However, once away from the genteel pathway, you will be climbing rough hewn steps and grassy meadows through neighboring farms. Comfortable hiking shoes are an absolute must!

But we ultimately reached our destination in Pentewan, the Ship Inn pub!

The way back to Mevagissey was much easier. We took a local bus! 🚌

We stayed for two evenings at a really sweet inn, right on the pier in Mevagissey.

The Wheelhouse in Mevagissey has rooms for rent as well as a cafe/restaurant. Perfectly situated right on the pier in Mevagissey! Have a look:

The village of Mevagissey has plenty to offer the visiting. There are multiple pubs, restaurants and quaint little boutique stores to idle the time away. And then, simply walking around the village is a lovely pastime. Take a little tour for yourself!
