A Boating Day in Sandbanks Poole ~

A picture-perfect boating day in Sandbanks, Poole England!!

The weather here in the southwest of England has been absolutely stunning these past few weeks. After the pre season ritual of servicing, cleaning, and stocking up the boat we finally enjoyed a day out on the sea! Sandbanks harbor has so many places to explore on a boat the options are endless!

We started our boating day in Sandbanks harbor, Poole, England from Saltern’s Marina in the early afternoon. We headed directly to Studland across the harbor, hoping to drop anchor and do a little sunbathing!

While proceeding leisurely to Studland, we encountered many others enjoying the day as well!

From motorboats, to sail boats, tour boats, and fishing boats, so many were out enjoying all that Sandbanks and Poole Harbor has to offer! You can catch one of the tour boats from Poole Quay. They provide a lovely time exploring the harbor and offer a guided commentary of the focal points as you enjoy the fresh air and sea!

Passing through the harbor, the beautiful Brownsea Island sits majestically against the skyline., Brownsea Island is the largest of the islands in Poole Harbor. The island is owned by the National Trust and the northern half is managed by the Dorset Wildlife Trust. Most of the island is open to the public and includes areas of woodland and heath with a wide variety of wildlife. There are also gorgeous cliff top views across Poole Harbor.

The island is the location that led to the formation of the Boy Scouts. Access is by public ferry or private boat.

On our way to Studland on this boating day from Sandbanks England ~

Upon our arrival in Studland, the sea was a little choppy and not really suitable for a leisurely couple of hours at anchor. BUT…Studland has miles of beach, all open to the public, as well as beautiful walking trails, sandy beaches and a few cafes and restaurants. This is a perfect place to explore whether on foot or from your boat!

However, a few times in the past we have anchored off Studland bay and used our paddle boards to reach the beach. We then enjoyed a leisurely lunch before paddling back to our anchored Sandy Toes!

So off from Studland back across the bay to South Deep. South Deep is a sheltered bay that offers a bit more protection from the choppiness of the open sea and is usually a great place to set anchor for a few hours!

When the weather cooperates, a boating day in Sandbanks Poole, England is a must!

So, on this gorgeous day, we anchored in South Deep for a few hours and did a little sunbathing! Our boat, Sandy Toes, has a great sun bed to lounge on and enjoy. My oldest son gifted me a lovely blanket so wherever I am we stay close ~

The water on South deep is also a bit warmer than the open sea. So a little dip of my Sandy Toes was in order ~

And we weren’t the only ones enjoying the Brit weather ~

And what to do at the end of you sun-kissed boating day? How about a burger and chips or a pizza and salad at The Deck at Salterns? This is our favorite spot to enjoy a beverage and a relaxing meal in the fantastic marina atmosphere!
