A mid-week trip to explore the Anvil Point Lighthouse and Country Park in Durlston, Dorset! Durlston Country Park is located about 1 mile from Swanage in Dorset. Traveling via the Sandbanks chain ferry in Poole it takes us about 40 minutes by car from our flat in Poole.

The Durlston Country Park and Anvil Point Lighthouse is a fabulous 320 acre countryside paradise. There are gorgeous and dramatic sea-cliffs, beautiful wildflowers, numerous species of birds and other wildlife, hedgerows and woodlands.

We have visited this lovely country park a few times, but never made the complete trek over to the Anvil Point Lighthouse. Well today was the day! A 3.5 mile hike brought us to the lighthouse along winding coastal walkways and down (and up) a few pretty steep and rocky trails!
Along the way to explore the Anvil Point Lighthouse, the views are stunning!

The surroundings are absolutely beautiful! We took a little break and just looked and listened. We could hear and smell the ocean, hear the bees buzzing and birds tweeting, smell the scents of the local wildflowers, feel the wind passing gently, and could even hear the rustle of the birds wings as they soared through the wind….
The color and beauty of the wild flowers are breathtaking ~

As we got closer we could see the Anvil Point lighthouse in the distance!

Not too far to go now! Just about another rocky faced mile!
The path isn’t as bad as we thought. A little caution is required though, along with good sturdy walking shoes, as the paths have some loose rocks in some places!
And the views along the way? Stunning…

All in all, well worth the walk! As most of you know by now, my husband and I are fans of all lighthouses and wherever we go, whenever we can, we love to explore these amazing places!
Finally!! We made it!

A lovely way to spend the afternoon nestled amongst natures beauty. A gorgeous countryside situated against the gorgeous English coastline. And the walk back, just as pretty ~

Whether or not you’re a lighthouse aficionado, the Durlston Country Park is a beautiful place to spend a day.
You can leisurely stroll around the luscious green countryside, bird watch, enjoy the gorgeous ocean views, bring a picnic! Also, you can see the Great Globe. Made from limestone, the Globe is engraved with an 1880s world map. There is also is a cafe serving hot and cold beverages, tea cakes, cream tea as well as some cafe lunch fare!
My hubby took the below picture while we were simply enjoying the views and peacefulness of it all from atop the highest hill…stunning! We honestly cannot describe the natural beauty and serenity!
