Central Park is an oasis in the heart of New York City, take a look!
Most of my readers know by now that my youngest son studied musical theater in New York and moved to Queens, Astoria (a borough of New York City). Sunday I took the trip into the Big Apple to spend some time with him.
To make things a little easier for me this time around, I drove to the train station in White Plains New York, rather than driving into the heart of the city. The traffic in the city is enough to dissuade me, but coupled with the lack of parking it’s a nightmare!. White Plains is about a two and a half hour drive from where I am in central Massachusetts. I parked the car in the garage at the train station, paid $8.00 to leave it all day, and took the train into Grand Central Station. The express train took about 40 minutes to pull into Grand Central.
Have a look at this majestic station:

My son took a train from his neck of the city and met me at Grand Central. After our initial hugs and kisses, we made our way to one of our favorite place, Sean’s Bar and Kitchen!
It’s a comfy pub style restaurant with an Irish flair. Some menu items include Bangers and Mash, Shepard’s Pie and Irish Beef Stew! They also have other delish dishes, like this Greek salad with grilled shrimp ~ very tasty!

The interior is pub style with a flair. The flag out front represents the Liverpool Football Club. And on the TV’s inside? Man United vs. Newcastle on April 2nd playing football (soccer)! Chandeliers made out of Grey Goose vodka bottles add an eclectic touch ~

After sitting for a bit and catching up, we made our way to Central Park! It was a sunny, warm day, gorgeous for a walk! We walked 13,987 steps, 5.9 miles and climbed 12 floors!
Central Park is 840 acres(340 hectares) and extends between 59th and 110th streets (about 2.5 miles [4 km]) and between Fifth and Eighth avenues (about 0.5 miles [0.8 km]).

This park is truly an oasis in the heart of one of the busiest cities in the world. With wide open green spaces for picnics, frisbee playing, and sunning yourself, to street musicians, carousels for the kiddies, beautiful flowering trees, and horse drawn carriages See a sample below:

And the street musicians! From fiddle playing (in a tunnel in the park to gain the best acoustics!)….
To a drummer who didn’t miss a beat!…
And of course, the real reason I went to New York ~

Have a visit, stay for a day, a weekend, a week! New York City has something to offer for everyone! Broadway plays, upscale shopping, fine dining, street vendors with the classic New York street food, pubs and bars with improv music performances, piano bars…and of course, Central Park!
