I also, FINALLY, cleaned out my storage unit!! WOOHOO! After nearly 3 years of living in Brit country, all of my “stuff” is now in England, with a few bins of photos at my sons house and some beach supplies here at my aunts house.

When I first made the move to England I had a large unit, at 10 x 20 feet. A year or so later I was able to downsize to a medium size unit of 10 x 10 feet and last year I downsized to a small unit at 5 x 10 feet! When 2 of my sons purchased their homes they each raided the facility for furniture, kitchen items, etc. And when my youngest moved into his first apartment he took even more (bookcases, TV, tables, etc.)! What is left is mainly photos, some memorabilia and old record albums and notable newspapers that my father had saved.
Having a storage facility can be necessary but also expensive! In the years since I first started renting a unit, the company has changed hands 3 times and prices have risen numerous times. It’s always best to shop around for price, but keep in mind the convenience of the location of any unit you rent. It’s also best to keep in mind whether you need an inside unit with some protection from the elements or can make due with an outside unit (I had stored a bottle of champagne and everything was fine until I moved to a smaller outside unprotected unit and … it exploded!). I secured my unit in Millbury, so it was easily accessible for me whenever I came back across the pond. I also made sure it was centrally located for my children so they could also have easy access.
A huge THANK YOU to my niece for helping me with the behemoth of a TV I had stored and to my aunt for lending us her vehicle! Another thank you to my oldest son for allotting me a place in his attic for the few bins of photos and to my aunt for allotting me some space in her lower garage for my beach chairs and coolers!!!
The logistics of moving across the pond can be difficult, but with family that’s always willing to help I am forever grateful…

A little P.S. ~ yes, I had to purchase an extra bag for my return flight back across the pond! Bringing back the last of my record albums and some holiday decorations!!
