A day in Portsmouth, Gunwharf Quays, Spinnaker Tower, Brit country.

Portsmouth is a lovely waterfront city located in the South Hampshire/Solent region of the South East of England.

As last Friday had some Brit sunshine, hubby and I decided to spend the day away together in Portsmouth!

Portsmouth is the home to Gunwharf Quays and the historical dockyards, as well as Spinnaker Tower.. There is so much to do and see here, from the outlet shopping district with stores like Boss, Adidas, Armani, Crew Clothing (just to name a few), to the many quayside restaurants, like Bella Italia, Chiquito, Five Guys, Hub Box (just to name a few more), and even a Krispy Kreme!!

The historic dockyards house the HMS Victory, HMS Warrior and the discovered wreck of the Mary Rose, again, just to name a few!

We purchased an “Ultimate Explorer” admission to the dockyards which grants us access to all of the attractions for one year, including a boat tour of the harbor. The cost was £44 per person, (approx. $53.00). We explored the Mary Rose as well as the HMS Victory on our day out. Make a note though, that this ticket does not include admission to the Spinnaker Tower (there is a separate admission price for that).

All of the above named attractions (and more) warrant their own post, which I will share in the future, but what I’d like to explore and share here with you in this post is the Spinnaker Tower! The Spinnaker Tower is located in Portsmouth, approximatley 70 miles south-west of London and 19 miles south-east of Southampton. It took us about an hour and a half from our home in Southwest England.

Spinnaker Tower is modeled as the Sail of the Solent. A 170-meter high (that’s almost 558 feet!) observation tower offering spectacular views! Hubby, being the good sport that he is, joined me at the very top, especially as he is not to fond of heights!!! The view was absolutely astounding, and the pictures below don’t do it justice. You can see the Isle of Wight in the distance as well as the Solent Sea (between the south of England ad the Isle of Wight). You’ll have to take a visit yourself!

The tower is designed to look like a sail billowing in the wind ~

And the sharp contrast of old vs. new…beautiful!

When we first entered the tower, it was…raining!!! But even then the views were fantastic…have a look!

Hubby gained his confidence and even walked across the glass floor section!! He even accepted a dare to jump up and down on the glass walk!

The view looking down through the glass floor!

A definite must see when visiting beautiful England!
