How will changing to DST affect connecting across the pond?
This is a reminder to both sides of the pond that Yank country will be changing their clocks this weekend!
On Sunday morning, March 12, 2023, Yank country will “spring forward” one hour and change to Daylight Savings Time. However, here in Brit country we won’t change our clocks to DST until March 26th.
What does that mean? Well, for two weeks, instead of a five-hour time difference between the two countries, there will only be a 4-hour time difference! That means when my friends in Yank country pop me messages on a group chat (and we all know what happens when 4 women are on a group chat—ping, ping, ping!!!) at 8:00 PM their time, my phone will be pinging at midnight instead of 1:00 AM! Or when my sons get out of work and decide to message me at 6:00 PM their time, it will only be 10:00 PM my time instead of 11:00 when I’m tucking into bed! Or, when I wake at 7:00 AM Brit time and start messaging all my Yank fam and friends cuz I have something I just must share, it will be 3:00 AM their time instead of 2 AM!
Seriously though, for these two weeks, it does help a little to have that one hour closer. I can call my grandkids at the end of their day, about 5:30 PM their time, and it will be 9:30 PM Brit time. That means if my 7 year granddaughter is in one of her chatty moods, we can share and share and share, and our call will still end before midnight in my world!
So don’t forget! If you’re expecting a call or message from someone across the pond during these two weeks, factor in this difference!! Well, at least for two weeks…
