Let’s Visit Vegas in Yank Country!

Have you ever been to Las Vegas? Would you like to know more about what to see and do? Have a read…

I created this blog to share my insights and experiences with my relocation to Brit country from Yank country. And mostly, so far, I have shared what life is like in England. I’ve compared Brit vs. Yank words, customs, holidays, cars, tourist attractions and activities around where I live in the south of England. I have shared some helpful hints that I’ve learned along the way, as well as shared some humorous anecdotes!

But what I’ve heard from some of my Brit family and friends is that they’d like to see a little more about Yank country! So, I thought I’d share a few of the top Yank destinations that I have visited and share some of the beautiful sites, sounds and ambiences of Yank world.

Most people have at least heard of Las Vegas, Nevada. Some have visited and some have Vegas listed on their “bucket list”! There is sooo much more to Vegas than “Sin City” and gambling! I am lucky to have a very good friend who lives in Las Vegas so I have visited with her and her husband many times. My room always awaits me there (except when her sons are there, and then it becomes a toss up)!!

Nevada is located in the west of Yank country. It borders Oregon and Idaho in the north, Utah and Arizona in the east, California in the west, and California and Arizona in the south. Nevada is the most mountainous and the driest state in the U.S.

When I am visiting with my friends in Vegas, our time is usually spent hiking, shopping, lunching, cooking out on the grill in the back yard (garden), and mostly sharing! Sharing is inherently why I started this blog ~ to connect and share across the pond, so it only seems right to share some of Yank country with the Brits. When my husband visited Vegas with me, we did a lot of the “touristy” things of course! But let’s take a look at it all!!

Two of our fave places to hike when I visit are Red Rock Canyon and the Valley of Fire. Have a look at some of the stark but beautiful scenery:

Bonnie Springs was one of those “touristy” things I’ve done. But lots of fun to see reenactments of the old Wild West!

Besides hiking and enjoying the beautiful desert and mountain scenery, of course there is the famous Vegas “strip”!

Of course there are all of the glitzy hotels and resorts to discover, the casinos, restaurants, etc. When hubby and I last visited it was around the holidays, some of the decorations were gorgeous!! Let me share some of our faves!

Christmas at the Bellagio ~ check out the displays, all made out of flowers!! https://bellagio.mgmresorts.com/en.html

There’s the High Roller Ferris Wheel with amazing views of the city ~

And believe it or not, our fave place to grab some lunch was this kitschy hamburger joint on the strip!

We stayed at the Flamingo for a few nights, one of the original hotels in Vegas!

And…the one thing I absolutely wanted to see…the RAT PACK! It was a great show off the main strip, located at the Tuscany Suites and Casino. I have always been a huge fan of Dean Martin and this show did not disappoint!

To finish off your stay in Vegas, the “Old Strip”, Fremont Street, is a must see. Fremont Street is the “original” Las Vegas Strip. It has since been closed off to vehicles and covered as an atrium! There are all of the characters you’d expect to see here–Elvis impersonators, cowboys and cowgirls in the classic attire, casinos, restaurants, open air bars, musicians playing on the corners, live bands on certain evenings…it’s the true Vegas!

Take a visit! Stay for a few days, stay for a week! Stay off the strip or on, hike, dirt bike, enjoy many different venues for dining! Have a few drinks, take a tour of the Grand Canyon or Lake Mead! See a show or two!

Again, my disclaimer ~ I am not a travel agent. I do not get ant commissions or “perks” from the places I’ve mentioned. These are my opinions, my experiences and my suggestions. Thank you for sharing them with me.
