Let’s Visit Lyme Regis, England for a Sunny February Day in Brit Country~

More gorgeous coastline in West Dorset, England

Hubby and I try and take advantage of the sunshiny days when we can! Tuesday, February 14th happened to be one of those rare days in February where the sun was shining, the sea was glistening, and the temps were in the mid 50’s Fahrenheit (10-12 degrees Celsius)!

We took a drive to Lyme Regis, which is located in West Dorset, England, about a 3 1/2 drive south from London, and about an hour and a half drive west from our home in Poole. Both Lyme Regis and Poole are in Dorset County.

Lyme Regis has a history dating back to the 8th century and is a well known tourist attraction today. This lovely seaside town is located along what is know as the heart of the Jurassic Coast. Fossils are one of its claims to fame! People still go “fossil hunting” in hopes of finding a piece of history.

Lyme Regis also has close ties in history with Yank country! Seeing things like this always makes me feel a special connection across the pond ~

And…have you ever heard of the film “The French Lieutenant’s Woman”, starring Meryl Streep? Well, that film was shot in 1980 on location in Lyme Regis!

“The Cobb” is an old stone pier forming an extensive harbor and believed to date from the time of Edward I (circa 1239-1307). We took a nice walk along the Cobb, beautiful scenery!

The quaint atmosphere is a feast for the senses. From the beautiful architecture of the old homes, to the pebble beach where you can hear the waves hissing their way over the stones, to the lovely seaside cafes with the aroma of fresh seafood cooking…

Take a look at the brick home, look closely and you can see fossils built into the brickwork!

Even the lampposts reflect the Jurassic Coast with fossil decor!

And of course, plenty of fish and chip shops!!
